T minus 6 days til the big move…

We move to Hatteras in six days. We are taking two kids, four dogs, a horse and a mouse. We gave away two horses, a donkey, and a rabbit before the move. The beach house we’re moving into is half the size of our house here in Atlanta. We sold most of our furniture, because the house we bought has been a vacation home for years and is already fully furnished. We are downsizing in a major way!

Our new house! ❤️

I have a lot of mixed emotions as I spend my last six days in Georgia. I will miss the people I work with and my friends here, but I am elated to be able to live near my family and watch my nephew grow up.

I’ll be working from home in Hatteras, and this will be the first time in my life that I haven’t had to get up and go to work at an office every day. I have a feeling I’m going to miss the busy clinic that I manage here. At the end of a long day of work where we see close to 100 patients, I have a feeling of accomplishment and teamwork with my coworkers. I know I’m going to miss that.

On the upside, I will be living two minutes from the beach, and that’s walking, not driving. I can look off my deck and see the Pamlico Sound on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. I’ve got a great view of the sunset every night.

My kids get to grow up in a tiny community, and see what it’s like to live on a remote sandbar where the weather really matters. It’s not just whether it’s going to rain or be chilly, but weather the ocean is going to over wash and take out the road. Living that way definitely makes you closer to nature, and more in tune with the cycles of the natural world.

Enjoying the fall weather in Atlanta

This next week is going to be full of packing and last-minute visits with friends, and I probably won’t have time to post anything else until we get to North Carolina. If all goes well, Lord willing, next time I can update you with pictures of our house and the beach. Hatteras Island is spectacular in the fall. I hope to have lots of pictures to share very soon!
